Simplot Enviornmental Lagoon Excavation – Pocatello, Idaho
In early 2011, Swaggart Brothers was assisting the JR Simplot Company with maintenance of their Gypsum Stack in Pocatello, Idaho. Simplot was so impressed with SBI’s work ethic and personnel; they requested that SBI engineer a solution to a problem that had been plaguing the company for years. The challenge was how to remove the slurry material from their storage ponds. Conventional methods failed due to equipment sinking in the quick sand like material. SBI’s answer was to utilize a modified Skyline Yarder as a drag line to create dewatering trenches. The process allowed for conventional equipment to be used on the pond floors.

To date, SBI has excavated over two million yards of material from active gypsum ponds. SBI is utilizing the excavated materials to build new dikes and raise the level of the existing pond structure. The creative approach to solving this problem allowed the JR Simplot Company to continue fertilizer production unimpeded.
