By placing safety at the top of our company values, it is not just good business; it is the right thing to do. To us, it’s not about the number’s, but rather a commitment to our people and ensuring that everyone goes home safe each night. Safety is an integrated value which is factored into every step of a project, from the planning to construction of every company project. Our principle is simple: as a professional builder, planning for safety really is the most important things we do each day.
Swaggart Brothers Inc. has built its safety program around the commitment to continuous improvement. This quest for safety excellence has been greatly augmented by our most valuable resource: Swaggart Brothers employees. We encourage the consistent, active involvement of our people, from upper management to our craft workers in making safety synonymous with Swaggart Brothers Inc.
We believe that accidents are not only avoidable, but are unacceptable. It is this culture that ensures that our EMR is consistently well below the industry average.
The foundation of our safety system is a training program, which encompasses employees at all levels—enabling them to be both educated and responsible when it comes to project safety. This employee involvement process includes orientation, supervisor training, safety staff, hazard recognition, job hazard analysis, safety meetings, safety committees, plus an emphasis on subcontractor safety.
Orientation. All new Swaggart Brothers Inc. employees attend a new-hire orientation prior to assuming any job duties. Swaggart Brothers, Inc. also takes the time to review our safety standards quarterly with all new field staff and management in our main office to ensure that our safety knowledge is being retained and to bolster our safety culture. We also do this in order to receive feedback from our employees to further improve our safety program.
Safety Staff: Swaggart Brothers Inc. has a full-time safety staff, including a safety manager and project safety representatives.
Hazard Recognition: Site safety audits are conducted weekly on all Swaggart Brothers Inc. projects. Conducted by a site supervisor, these audits help promote personnel involvement in safety issues as well as providing a forum to discuss techniques being used and possible alternatives.
Job Hazard Analysis: Before any job starts up, the Swaggart Brothers Inc. field supervisor, in conjunction with the safety manager and onsite workers, originates a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to ensure that proper thought and planning have gone into each phase of the work to be done.
Safety Meetings: Conducted weekly at all projects—and daily during periods of peak activity—safety meetings are conducted by one of our field supervisors and address specific topics and concerns. Swaggart Brothers, Inc. also performs daily Job Safety Analyses at all jobsites, with all employee’s participation, in order to pin point everyday hazards that pose any threat of injury or incident. Owner representatives often attend and speak at these meetings too.
